The film would have been an excellent feel-good drama if director Anita Udeep had addressed the issues of her female characters without glorifying drugs and alcohol. We also have Sukanya (Monisha Ram) who falls in love with another girl but the society and parents are against their wedding. For the middle-aged Kajal (Masoom Shankar), her husband has an extra-marital affair after the couple cannot spend much time in bed due to their daughter(!!) Then there is Paaru (Shree Gopika ) whose husband cannot forget his past love and hence, they find it hard to start a family. For Thamarai, (Bommu Lakshmi) her rogue husband and his dangerous henchman job is a big headache. The film is all about how Rita changes the lives of five women who have their own challenges in life. Rita (Oviya) enjoys her life to the fullest, she has a live-in partner and moves on to a new apartment. The young girls in the film also crack double meaning jokes which are partly funny, mostly crass.

But the director often gets muddled, as she confuses feminism by glorifying boozing and smoking. Director Anita Udeep's 90 ML talks about feminism, liberation, and sexual issues of modern women. A strong screenplay would have made the movie better.Tamil cinema seldom makes films about unapologetically amoral characters. What the film lacks is a proper emotional connect though it entertains to a certain extent. Similarly, there are audiences who might enjoy watching girls in a never before seen manner as far as Tamil cinema is concerned. The aspect of women liberation has been touched upon by including several scenarios which may raise the eyebrows of many. Here, the difference is that the situations are narrated from womenвЂ™s point of view. We have seen similar stories with men playing lead roles. The movie has nothing new to offer in terms of story. She promises to solve their personal issues in return. All of them open up about their various fantasies during their no-holds-barred conversations and Rita encourages them to live their lives to the fullest. The lives of Thamara, Kajal (Masoom Shankar), Paru (Sree Gopika) and Suganya (Monisha) changes when their friendship blossoms with Rita. Rita (Oviya) befriends four girls in a flat where she has newly moved to. The couple has gone there to discuss the drinking problems of Thamara. The fim starts with Thamara (Bommu Lakshmi) and her husband consulting a psychiatrist (Devadarshini). There are scenes where girls are shown partying and sharing their personal issues, which involve lack of sex life, same sex love, misunderstanding with life partner, and so on. However, the movie isnвЂ™t just about glorifying all these. The makers were criticised for promoting pseudo feminism and spoiling the culture.

Many had come down heavily on portraying girls drinking, smoking and discussing about their sex lives in a casual manner. There were mixed responses when the teaser of 90ml was released.
